It’s that time of year again. The monsoons are upon us and, along with the muddy streets, delayed traffic, and horrible humidity, we also have three months of cooler weather and windy days to look forward to. If like us, all you want to do is cozy up with a bowl of something piping hot and delicious, we’ve got a list of some of the tastiest soups in Mumbai – from Indian specialties, to soothing, creamy concoctions. Take your pick, and take a sip!
1. Smoke House Deli
The wholesome Paleo Coconut and Seafood Broth is a coconut milk-based soup that’s prepared with red rice and Himalayan millet to give it a good bite. It’s low on fat, dairy, and gluten-free, and topped off with kale and fragrant basil.
Where: Smoke House Deli, Clove At 33rd Road, Pali Hill, Bandra West
2. +91 Juhu
There’s nothing quite like a steaming bowl of thukpa to drive away the blues, and Ladakhi Chicken Thukpa from +91 is no different. Here, the noodles are buckwheat soba noodles, and pok choy adds a welcome, fresh taste.
Where: +91, Ground Floor, Om Satyadeep Apartments, Gulmohar Cross Road 7, JVPD Scheme, Juhu
3. The Boston Butt
Putting a twist on a classic soup by swapping potato with sweet potato, the Smoked Leek, and Sweet Potato Soup is flavourful, rich, and nourishing.
Where: Boston Butt, 1st floor, Rampart Row, Kala Ghoda, Fort
4. Copper Chimney
Copper Chimney is one of our go-to places for Indian comfort food, and when it comes to soups, they know that it’s best to keep it light and simple (all the more place for that rich, creamy Chelo Kebab rice!). That’s why we love the Ab-E-Hayat, a vegetable and coconut milk soup flavored with haldi and celery.
Where: Copper Chimney, 12A, Lotus Court, Dr Annie Besant Road, Worli
5. Hello Guppy
With the woodsy scent and flavor of mushrooms, the Mushroom Suimono, a shiitake and truffle-scented clear broth, is a great way to start a meal at this quirky Japanese eatery.
Where: Hello Guppy, Unit 4, Ground Floor, Jet Airways, Godrej Building, Bandra Kurla Complex
6. Jamjar Diner
Hearty and warming, the Firehouse Chilli combines the flavors of roasted vegetables with smoky beans that are filling enough to serve as a light meal in itself. The tortilla chips on the side are a nice bonus too!
Where: Jamjar Diner, 7A & B, Aram Nagar 2, Behind Washing Bay, Yari Road, Versova
The dumplings at Yauatcha are some of the best in the city, so of course, they had to include them on their soup menu too! The Seafood Dumpling Soup here includes steaming hot seafood dumplings dunked in Cantonese-style chicken supreme stock for a dish that’s rich in flavor and wholesome.
Where: Yauatcha, Raheja Tower, First Floor, Bandra Kurla Complex
